"The Coca-Cola Case" [87 min. English and Spanish (English subtitles)]

A film about International Solidarity

...Colombia is the trade union murder capital of the world. Since 2002, more than 470 workers’ leaders have been brutally killed, usually by paramilitaries hired by private companies intent on crushing unions.

This new documentary is co-produced by filmmakers German Gutierrez and Carmen Garcia and the National Film Board of Canada. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Edgar Paez.

Colombia is the most dangerous place in the world to be a trade unionist with more than 4000 assassinated union officials and organisers in two decades and an impunity rate of 95%.

Edgar Paez is visiting Australia invited by the Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET) with the support of Australian trade unions to attend a range of meetings and activities to denounce the systematic intimidation, kidnapping, detention, torture and murder of Colombian Trade unionists and to explain to all interested people about the systematic human rights’ violations by international corporations (multinationals) like Coca-Cola Company and BHP Billiton. These multinational companies are responsible for indigenous communities’ displacement and workers’ exploitation in Colombia. Edgar also is inviting interested people and unions to join a delegation to visit Colombia between July 10 and 24 to attend a series of events with unions, indigenous peoples and those affected by the Colombian government’s inhumane policies.
