SINDICATO NACIONAL DE TRABAJADORES DE LA INDUSTRIA DE ALIMENTOS "SINALTRAINAL"

Entre 1981 y 1990 registramos más de 50 asesinatos de sindicalistas; desde la firma de la actual Constitución (1991) hasta marzo del 2008 en Colombia se han asesinado 2.524 sindicalizados (entre afiliados, activistas y dirigentes), la gran mayoría pertenecen a la CUT. Veintidós eran afiliados a Sinaltrainal -7 de Coca Cola y 11 de Nestle-. En lo corrido del 2008, han sido asesinados 9. En los últimos 20 anos, hemos denunciado la desaparición de 97 sindicalistas. En lo transcurrido del gobierno de Álvaro Uribe Vélez Presidente de Colombia, hemos registrado 8.285 violaciones entre el derecho a la vida y el derecho a la libertad sindical. 500 sindicalistas se encuentran en el exterior en asilo político y refugio. Se presenta al menos una violación de derechos humanos contra un sindicalista cada 24 horas.

La inmensa mayoría de estos crímenes se encuentran en la impunidad. Tres jueces de descongestión del convenio OIT, que empezaron a desempolvar y esclarecer estos crímenes fueron excluidos de los procesos, entre ellos, el juez José Nirio Sanchez, quien adelantaba las investigaciones por la muerte de tres sindicalistas en Arauca y de uno de Sinaltrainal (Luciano Romero); los primeros a manos del ejercito colombiano, el trabajador de Nestle por los paramilitares.

Es la misma realidad para el resto de sectores de la población. Son asesinados Indígenas, campesinos, afro-descendientes, estudiantes, obreros, a manos de grupos paramilitares y las fuerzas armadas. El destierro, las amenazas, la tortura, las masacres continúan. La ley de justicia y paz, ha sido la consolidación de la reingeniería paramilitar; el paramilitarismo ha sido desde anos una política de estado.

Las organizaciones sociales enfrentamos esta situación con la movilización y denuncia permanente, con campanas globales (OXI, REPSOL, COCA COLA, NESTLE, BP); acudiendo ante las cortes en Colombia y en los Estados Unidos; ante la comisión y la corte interamericana de derechos humanos y a la solidaridad y hermandad con otros pueblos que igualmente luchan contra la guerra y por una vida digna y soberana.

El Tribunal Permanente de los Pueblos, avanza en la visibilizacion y juzgamiento de los crímenes cometidos por transnacionales en distintos sectores de la economía, Chiquita Brands, Drummond, Monsanto, Dyncorp, entre otras. Hemos realizado 5 audiencias especializadas y preparamos la audiencia final para los dias 21, 22 y 23 de julio de 2008 y queremos que ustedes participen; que lleguen a Colombia y juntos continuemos resistiendo y avanzando en el juzgamiento de estos crímenes de lesa humanidad y por la violación permanente de los derechos humanos de la población.

En este contexto es que el presidente Alvaro Uribe Velez insiste en el tratado de libre comercio (TLC). El terrorismo de estado ha sido un instrumento fundamental para que las transnacionales continúen saqueando los recursos naturales, destruyendo la biodiversidad, aniquilando las organizaciones sociales y empobreciendo la población.

Debemos seguir movilizándonos para que no se apruebe el TLC, para que se pare la guerra que desde anos se ejecuta contra nuestros pueblos y para que en Colombia el conflicto social y armado tenga una solución política negociada.

Between 1981 and 1990 we registered more than 50 murders of unionists; since the signing of the present Constitution (1991) until March 2008, in Colombia 2,524 unionists have been assassinated (affiliated, activists and leaders), the great majority belong to the CUT. Twenty-two were affiliated to Sinaltrainal -7 of Coca Cola and 11 of Nestle'. As of the current 2008, 9 have already been assassinated. In the last 20 years, we have denounced the disappearance of 97 unionists. During the government of Alvaro Uribe Vélez, the current President of Colombia, we have registered 8,285 violations, from the right to life and the right to freedom for the labor unions. Five hundred unionists are away from Colombia in political asylum and refuge. Every 24 hours there is at least one violation of human rights against a unionist.

The immense majority of these crimes remain in impunity. Three judges of the agreement of the ILO, who began to dust off and disentangle these crimes, were excluded from the processes, among them, Judge Jose Nirio Sanchez, who advanced the investigations of the death of three unionists in Arauca and one of Sinaltrainal (Luciano Romero); the first ones at the hands of the Colombian Army and the worker of Nestle by paramilitaries.

It is the same reality for the rest of the sectors of the population. Indigenous people, farmers, Afro-descendants, students, workers, are all assassinated by the hands of the paramilitary groups and the Armed Forces. The exile, the threats, the torture and the massacres continue. The Law of Justice and Peace, has been the consolidation of the re-engineering of the paramilitaries; paramilitarism has been for years, a state policy.

We in the social organizations, face this situation with mobilizations and permanent denouncements, with global campaigns (OXI, REPSOL, COCA COLA, NESTLE, BP); going to courts in Colombia and the United States; to the Commission and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights; and to the solidarity, the brotherhood and sisterhood of other peoples that are also fighting against the war and for a decent and sovereign life.

The Permanent Peoples' Tribunal advances the exposure and judgment of the crimes committed by transnational corporations in different sectors of the economy, Chiquita Brands, Drummond, Monsanto, Dyncorp, among others. We have conducted 5 specialized hearings and we are preparing the final hearing for July 21, 22 and 23 of 2008 and we want you to participate; that you go to Colombia and together we continue resisting and advancing the judgment of these crimes against humanity and the permanent violation of the human rights of the population.

It is in this context that president Alvaro Uribe Velez insists on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). State terrorism has been a fundamental instrument for the transnational companies to continue stealing the natural resources, destroying biodiversity, annihilating the social organizations and impoverishing the population.

We must continue mobilizing so that the FTA is not approved, so that the war that for years has been executed against our people is stopped and that the social and armed conflict in Colombia has a negotiated political solution.
